Canadian Niagara Power Achieves 5.9% Net Decrease in Electricity Rates for Fort Erie
Fort Eire, April 13, 2005 - Canadian Niagara Power announced today that its customers in Fort Erie will see an approximate 5.9% decrease in electricity rates effective April 1, 2005 due to an interim decrease in the delivery charge partially offset by an increase in the cost of power. The average Fort Erie residential customer that consumes 1,000 kWh per month will realize a monthly savings of approximately $6.
The decrease in the delivery charge is substantially due to the Company’s continues investment and efficient management of the distribution system thus avoiding increased demand charges. The increase in the cost of power is due to the implementation of the government’s Regulated Price Protection plan ("RPP") instituted by the Ontario Energy Board ("OEB"). The RPP was developed to better reflect the true cost of power being paid to generators for electricity and is based on the OEB’s 12 month cost of power forecast.
Bill Daley, President & CEO of Canadian Niagara Power stated, "The Company is committed to the safe and efficient operations of our distribution systems. Canadian Niagara Power continues to focus on investing and managing its electrical system to improve reliability and delivery of electricity while maintaining affordable distribution rates for its customers."
As an advocate of responsible energy usage, Canadian Niagara Power urges customers to take conservation measures such as changing to energy efficient lighting, installing programmable thermostats, weather-stripping doors and windows, installing efficient showerheads and other measures to reduce electrical consumption.
