Fort Erie Welcomes New $35 million Residential Development
Fort Erie, Ontario, July 16, 2005 - Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop today greeted guests at the Grand Opening of Ridgeway by the Lake, Fort Erie’s latest multi-million dollar residential development. “This development takes advantage of the wonderful quality of life assets that Fort Erie has to offer,” explained Mayor Redekop. “The lake, our trails and our green space, not to mention the close proximity to the big city amenities of Buffalo and Toronto, make this housing development very attractive to people who want to make Fort Erie their home.”
This $35 million adult lifestyle community, known as Ridgeway by the Lake, is the brainchild of developer, Robert Mills, (Blythwood Group). With thirty years of development experience from around the province and Niagara region1, Mr. Mills identified the need for this type of community in Fort Erie. “Ridgeway is perfect because of its charm”, stated Mr. Mills, “It has preserved its historical look and is a walkers paradise because of the waterfront and all of the trails throughout the Town. Homeowners are looking for a relaxed, convenient lifestyle and that’s what Ridgeway by the Lake offers.”
Enquiries for the development have come from the Greater Toronto Area, namely Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga, as well as from the United States and Vancouver. Mr. Mills added, “We’re delighted also by the fact that a significant amount of interest is coming from the local, Niagara regional community. “
This trend reflects the overall movement in Niagara in adult living development. “This supports the age-in-place concept that we’re promoting,” stated Rino Mostacci, Town of Fort Erie Director of Community Planning & Development Services. “As you get older,” he explained, “and you no longer find your single dwelling suitable, you can move within the existing community to something that meets your changing needs”.
Ridgeway by the Lake will provide 140 homes and forty townhomes. Designed by Niagara Falls firm, Chapman Murray Associates, the development will feature an 8,000 square foot clubhouse (fitness club, great room, library, billiards), outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. As Mr. Mills explained, “We are very committed to building homes to much higher standard than is the industry norm. That’s what people expect and that’s what we’re happy to give them.”
