RICH PRODUCTS TURNS SOD ON $15 MILLION EXPANSION
FORT ERIE, Ontario, September 13, 2002 – Howard Rich President and Chief Operating Officer,
Rich Products, today turned the sod for the company’s $15 million expansion of its Fort Erie operation. “We are pleased to begin another chapter in Rich’s history of success,” said Mr. Rich. “We have enjoyed forty years of prosperity in partnership with the Town of Fort Erie, the Province of Ontario and the Canadian food industry.”
The expansion will create 35 - 40 new jobs, expand Rich’s present production facility by 22,000 square feet, and provide state-of-the-art-manufacturing capabilities for baked breads and rolls. It allows Rich’s to focus on strategic customers and enhance their ability to adapt in a changing market.
The expansion is being supported by a program of the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Rural Economic Development Program. Tim Hudak, Minister of Consumer and Business Services and Erie-Lincoln MPP stated “This is a great day for Fort Erie. I am delighted that our government’s $3.6 million investment will spur innovation, prosperity and job creation in our communities.”
In addition to job creation, the expansion will also benefit members of Rich’s Project Development Team: Robin Hood Multifoods Inc., Lallemand Inc., the Ontario Wheat Producers’ Marketing Board and Canadian Niagara Power, Ltd. These business alliances will create synergies for market leadership.
Construction of the expansion is expected to be complete by spring 2003.
