FORT ERIE INVESTORS OPEN $6.0 MILLION
STATE-OF-THE-ART TRUCK AND TRAVEL CENTRE
November 18, 2002 - Owners, Tony Shertzing, Alfred Beam and Jack Vanderlaan, today announced the opening of the new, state-of-the-art Fort Erie Truck and Travel Plaza. “We have created a facility here for truckers and the traveling public that features a range of services, some standard but others quite unique. Because we are only one mile from the Peace Bridge which is the busiest border crossing in North America, this has given us an opportunity to be innovative.”
The Fort Erie Truck and Travel Plaza is situated on a nineteen-acre site and features a Golden Griddle, Bertie Tire (truck repair services), Niagara Thunder Truck Wash, Nicholby’s (gift and convenience shop) and a traveler centre. The centre provides services such as showers, a television lounge, internet, ATM’s, phones and laundry. “We developed the Plaza to serve travelers and the professional driver,” explained Mr. Schertzing.
The Plaza also provides brokerage services provided by Peace Bridge Brokerage. Pre-clearing services are available eight hours daily plus sixteen hours per day at the counter when the office is closed.
An innovative service is in the area of shopping. Travellers can make duty free purchases from a telephone at the Plaza which is connected directly to the Duty Free Mall at the Peace Bridge. Telephone orders are processed and purchases await pick-up at the Duty Free Express pick-up counter at the Peace Bridge Complex.
Parking for approximately 190 trucks, vehicles, buses and RV’s exists as do hydro services at twelve parking spaces. This is intended to encourage overnight stays by RV travelers.
The Plaza was funded entirely by private sector investors
